Kisspeptin-10 and the GPR54 receptor

From ligand discovery to carefully bounded human research.

Published 30 September 2026

From ligand discovery to carefully bounded human research.

The receptor link

The KiSS-1 gene produces kisspeptin peptides. An original receptor study identified them as ligands of GPR54 and measured signalling in engineered cells. This established a mechanistic route for later investigations of reproductive signalling.

Different kinds of evidence

A separate small study examined kisspeptin-10 and luteinising-hormone pulse frequency in men. Its outcomes describe the participants and protocol studied; they are not a claim about a catalogue material or a general recommendation. The distinction between receptor experiments and human studies is especially important when summarising a research peptide.

Research takeaway

A name such as Kisspeptin-10 should be connected to a defined sequence, material specification and the exact study being discussed.
