How to read a peptide Certificate of Analysis

Five questions that make a batch document useful rather than decorative.

Five questions that make a batch document useful rather than decorative.

Connect paper to material

Start with the sample name, batch or lot number, test date and stated specification. These details should match the container and the exact format under discussion. A certificate from another batch or a generic sample cannot establish the result for a current item.

Read method and result together

For each claimed property, look for the analytical method, acceptance criterion and measured result. Identity, purity, amount and any microbiological property answer different questions. ICH's analytical validation framework describes characteristics such as specificity, accuracy and precision; the relevant test and validation depend on the intended analytical purpose.

Research takeaway

MC10 has not published batch-specific COAs for this range. A blog article is not a substitute for one.
